Bingo Bagel

Update: As of early 2018, Bingo Bagel appears to be closed. If you know of a new location in Chengdu, leave a comment below and we’ll update this page.

Bingo Bagel is a locally-owned bagel shop located near Chengdu’s Jiuyan Qiao bridge. Opened in 2010 by Chengdu native Fei with the goal of providing bagels as a healthier, tasty alternative to the typical heavy, sweet breads that are common in China.

Bingo Bagel offers seven different varieties of bagel, ranging from 5-8 yuan, creating an affordable and unique eating experience in Chengdu. Try the whole wheat for something basic, or the raspberry bagel for something a little different. All bagels are fresh cooked twice daily.

In additional to bagels, there are also sandwiches featuring a variety of ingredients, a wide array of desserts, tea, coffee, freshly squeezed juice and smoothies that fill out the menu. The coffee is all locally-sourced.

In addition to the food, the environment is unique and relaxing. A nice soundtrack of soft, coffee house music blends nicely with the understated Western-themed decor. If you need a break from the generic, noisy, sometimes smoke-filled coffee shops that you mainly encounter in Chengdu, Bingo Bagel is a haven.

It also makes a good work space. Every table has a power outlet within reach, and there’s free wifi. In the coming months, they also plan to begin serving beer and catering to a late-night crowd in addition to daytime patrons.

Glad to have a bagel place in Chengdu! I hope to see more and more of these popping up, replacing the Korean and Taiwanese bread cafes with their meat floss and burnt coffee (I’m looking at you, Tous les Jours!)

I tried this place a few years ago when they opened. The bagels were ok but when i asked for cream cheese they seemed non-plussed…..

Bagels were probably the thing I missed most from back home, so I was really excited to discover this place just 2 minutes from my apartment. The staff here are friendly, and the bagels are solid. I used to meet my Chinese teacher here a few times each week, so I agree that it’s suitable for a work space.

Went by this address and looked around, but couldn’t find it. Website is also down, so I assume the place is closed.

There are a couple other cafes nearby that popped up, and they’re pretty nice.

Shucks, that is not good news. I will mark this location as closed. Thanks for the update, Nathaniel.
