Lumiere Pavilions Movie Theater

Located on the top floor of the Raffles City shopping mall, Lumiere Pavilions is a high-end movie theater featuring domestic and international films. This location is the first movie theater opened in Chengdu by Lumiere Pavilions, a Beijing-based theater chain.

This theater features a handful of screens showing up to a half-dozen films on any given day, sometimes in 3D. Sounds and image quality are excellent and the seats are comfortable.

Prices

Ticket prices at Lumiere Theaters are average for Chengdu, which is between 40 – 100 yuan per ticket depending on day and time. Films in 3D routinely cost an additional 20 – 30 yuan. Like other theaters in Chengdu, you can get much cheaper tickets by purchasing online or via group-discount sites (called tuán gòu 团购 in Chinese).

I went to this place for the first time last week, got tickets via a Groupon-like site and saw Life of Pi in 3D for 25 yuan on the last day that it played. The inside of the place is much smaller than I expected – instead of wide open areas like most theaters in Chengdu, narrow hallways lead you to the actual theaters themselves. The movie experience was good, I noticed that my phone didn’t have reception in the theater which was a huge relief. If that was intentional, as I assume, then it’s a genius design decision. I’ve been in too many movies in China when someone actually answers their telephone while seated at the theater.

One other strange thing that happened to me here is when I was getting my ticket, I noticed nachos behind the cashier. As in, a sign that said nachos, with trays of chips sitting under a hot lamp. I ordered some and he gave me dry chip with a packed of ketchup. I laughed and asked what this was, and he looked at me and said nachos. Oooookay.

Otherwise this theater was good and I recommend it. It’s the most convenient location for anyone in Yulin, too.

If there really is no cell phone reception in the cinema that is absolutely brilliant (i heard some universities also block it in their lectures halls). I probably couldnt contain my violent tendencies if someone answers a phone in the cinema. This will be my cinema of choice from now on!

    1. Your website is all in Chinese and I cannot read it.
    2. How can I conveniently find out your movie schedule?

      Hi Steve,

I assume you are trying to communicate with the movie theater and not Chengdu Places, but I might be able to answer your questions. It seems that they don’t have an English website, but you can find out movie times on the website in Chinese. If you can’t read it you might want to have a Chinese person help you out. The movie times are on this page.
