Mike’s Pizza Kitchen

July 2016 update: Mike’s has recently moved to a new location which is listed below. The photos have yet to be updated, but the address below will get you there.

A Las Vegas native, Mike had been preparing and delivering American style pizzas in Chengdu for almost two years before opening his restaurant in the Tongzilin neighborhood of Chengdu. Although the interior is small, it affords you a first-row look at Mike tossing dough into the air and creating each pizza by hand. At the same time, he’s wearing a Bluetooth headset and taking delivery orders – this guy really does it all.

Pizzas are large and ingredients are fresh, although the pizza has been said by many to be the American counter-point to the Italian pizzeria in Chengdu, Pizza Mandolino.

Podcast

In February 2015, we recorded a Chengdu Living Podcast with Mike, wherein he tells the story of how his pizzeria in Chengdu came to be.

Prices

Prices for pizzas at Mike’s Pizza Kitchen start at 40 yuan, which is incredibly cheap, and go up to about 150 yuan for “stuffed” pizzas which offer twice as many toppings. For foreign-prepared pizza in Chengdu, Mike’s pizzas are very reasonably priced, and delivery comes at no additional charge.

Tried out Mike’s for the first time last night. Large specialty pizza delivered to the door.

Did well to sate the appetite of 2 professional eaters and the price was very reasonable for pizza in the middle kingdom.

Best part was the deliciousness. Big ups for doing it right!

I’ve ordered in and went to the little spot by Singapore Gardens. My fave is the Papa Bear – the one with BBQ chicken, right? And they have a great Elvis book in the shop. Great pizza, great guy

There used to be a pizza delivery operation in Chengdu called Mutt’s Nutts, ran by an English guy who lived here for years named Simon. He closed up shop a long time ago and fortunately Mike’s came around not long after to pick up Chengdu’s pizza A-game. Authentic American style pizza, whether you eat in or get it delivered to your door.

Went in to Mike’s for the first time a few weeks ago and almost cried it was so good! I had a bad run-in with the pizza at the Bookworm, so having REAL pizza at Mike’s made everything that much better. I’ve only been there once but I will definitely be going there again and again and again… Having oldies music playing at the restaurant was also a nice addition, reminds me of home!

Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s really authentic.

I really enjoy this place. They’re very friendly, the prices are very reasonable, and the food is good. It feels and tastes like a pizza place you’d find in a small college town in the US, which is great!

The food is good, but the owner is an ass. He verbally abuses customers and staff loudly in the small little store. I’d say its ok for delivery if you really want pizza but I wouldn’t eat in. They follow the customer is always wrong policy here sadly though.

I have witnessed the same thing at Mike’s Pizza Kitchen. It was really shocking and ruined the meal.

We found Mike’s about a year ago through word of mounth from friends…specifically they used words like “best pizza in Chengdu”. It’s a small and packed dining room and everything on the menu is fresh excellent. Eclectic music mix is enjoyable and he can sing. Mike is a real good guy and his better half, Aiqing, could have the world on a string if it was her whim. My wife and I are always greated by both of them with big smiles and warm welcome. Everyone I’ve taken there wants to go back. It requires 3 hungry people to finish a stuffed pizza (135 RMB Red Riding Hood, no peppers). Sandwiches are large and great and the salads are fresh. Belgian beer selection is nice and service is excellent. Be sure to tip your hat to Wu, who works the oven after Mike has slung the dough and created another masterpiece. Apple or peach desert pizzas (baby bears) are good but we have to take them home…no room after pizza and beer. Monkey knots are awesome for next day’s breakfast. If he went public I’d own stock. You can find us there on weekends 2 or 3 times each month, usually on weekends…I’m the guy wearing Alabama gear. Roll Tide!!!

My family has lived in Chengdu for the past two years, and Mike’s was one of our best discoveries. My family’s eaten in and had countless pizzas delivered, and Mike has never disappointed. Quite the opposite, really! Our family tradition is ordering a couple of pepperoni pies every Friday night, and if we don’t get to do it, we all feel like we missed out.

We’re leaving Chengdu for good in a couple of weeks, and hope that we find pizza half as delicious as we move to another city in China. Thanks, Mike and Aiqing, for helping keep us fed and happy these past couple of years! Best wishes to you as you continue feeding the pizza loving community of Chengdu!

    Cheers,
    Nathan
