Redbeard Burgers

Fall 2018 update: unfortunately, Redbeard Burgers has permanently closed.

Located in the Tongzilin neighborhood in the South of Chengdu exactly where Cakey Butta used to be, Redbeard Burgers is an American restaurant specializing in hamburgers. Redbeard Burgers uses USA imported Red Label chuck and sirloin beef, ground fresh daily, along with homemade brioche buns. All of their condiments and sauces are made in house as well, including even the pickles. Additionally, Redbeard features weekly specials, homemade desserts, and weekly specials like beer battered onion rings and french fries made from scratch.

Red Beard also features an impressive selection of beer, including delicious locally-brewed beers and hard-to-find imported beers.

This is one of the few authentic American eateries in Western China. It’s well loved and comes highly recommended.

The cakes at Cakey Butta are amazing! The drinks are good, too. Gotta say, I haven’t seen anywhere in China quite like this before. It’s remarkably authentic.

Before I get into the food, let me just say this place has atmosphere to match the awesome food. Sure, it’s a small joint (can seat… 12, if I’m remembering correctly), but it doesn’t feel cramped. When I’ve been there, they’ve always been playing good American music (I remember hearing Earth Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder) and always showing off good service and hospitality.

On my second visit, I was feeling adventurous and got the Cry Baby Fries + the Dufu.

Best meal I’ve had in months. The Cry Baby Fries ain’t that spicy, but they’re sure as hell full of flavor. 35 kuai for fries doesn’t seem too bad when you’re splitting with a friend. The fries themselves, as with the last time, top notch. Don’t know anyone that does ’em better.

Now the Dufu… boy, just go try the Dufu. It’s smothered in barbeque sauce, got roasted peppers, light on the spice-factor, but it’s just got that perfect combination of savory burger and sweet BBQ sauce. Oozes into the fresh baked bun and I wish it lasted forever.

Ok, I’m getting hungry again. I’ll leave it at that, gonna be hard to not order the Dufu again next time.

Good burgers, nice atmosphere, super-nice staff, but i gotta say, the burgers are small. The bread almost looks like a mini-roll. I’m used to my gourmet burgers being big….I still prefer Let’s Burger at IFS

Probably the dopest restaurant I’ve ever been in. I had a near existential crisis dealing with how amazing the food here was. It was the best burger I’ve ever had. The burgers themselves were perfectly cooked, huge, juicy and delicious, and the Iron Pig fries were phenomenal.. If you come to Chengdu and don’t come here, you’ll deeply regret it.

Erm, maybe I just caught this place on an off day, because it was bang average. I left 100 odd RMB lighter and very confused as to why this place has the reputation it does. Bland, tasteless burger, not seasoned and doesnt even come with chips…The atmosphere is also slightly creepy as its so small and all you can hear is that owner woman talking nonsense.

Sorry to hear that. That is the first time I have heard of a bad experience there!
