Treat Supermarket

Note: Sadly, as of March 2016, Treat in Raffles City has closed. Read our post about it on Chengdu Living: Supermarket Treat Closes Down

Treat is the inaugural mainland China supermarket location opened by Hong Kong supermarket chain giant ParknShop. The 6,400 square meter location in Raffles City features 30,000 items with over 15% being imported. Find things at Treat that can otherwise be very difficult to find in Chengdu.

In addition to produce and food goods, Treat also has a department store-like area which sells vacuum cleaners, bed linens, and other home-use items.

Make no mistake, you can spend a lot of money inside Treat. The real draw of this location over its competition is that Treat carries many imported items which you simply cannot find at other supermarkets in Chengdu.

Treat is the best supermarket experience I’ve had in China. Ton’s of foreign products with a comfortable and relaxing environment.

Decent overall, but don’t drop the cash on the Mission tortillas they have. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I came across them and I bought them on impulse… but they were old and improperly stored so they were stale and all stuck together in a big clump. It was a real challenge to get them apart.

Make your own tortillas or get them from taobao, not from here!

there are some awesome tortillas at the Qingshiqiao Market downtown – it’s on our list of things to post here 😉 but overall, love Treat. Just makes me forget the grime for a bit.

Nice environment. Plenty of imported goodies at a price you’d expect.

Organization of the place is a bit tough to figure out and the spices are overwhelmingly Chinese in selection, but all in all not bad.

I’ve lived in Chengdu for over a year now and TREAT is NOT what it was when it first opened. The variety of imported products has significantly decreased in the last 3 months. It’s no better than Ito or Isetan or even the imported section at Carrefour now. Sad! I used to like it a lot.

that sucks. there are others though, in basically every mall around town. Ole is pretty good, but far away …

interesting – I’ve noticed no change for the worse, in fact they seem to have more every time I go. Maybe it was your favourite purchases that disappeared. You can ask them for anything you think is missing.
